INTERN JOURNAL: First Week

I’ve just finished up my first week of classes at TYO and I have to say that they have been much more challenging that I anticipated!  However, I think I’m getting the hang of things as the second class for both my moms’ dance class and my youth theater class ran much more smoothly than the first.  The cardinal rule about traveling and teaching is to adapt, adapt, adapt!  As I rework my teaching methods to better suit my students, I can already see my students getting accustomed to them. Sundays and Tuesdays I will be teaching 45-minute dance classes Continue reading…

President Clinton endorses TYO’s women’s entrepreneurialism initiative

Following our fabulous experience at CGI 2009 in New York last month, we were happy to hear from the CGI folks again today! They have made available an official seal of approval for all Commitment Makers in good standing (at left). They’ll also send a certificate signed by President Clinton that we will proudly display in the entrance of our Nablus Center, next to our other commitment certificate from CGI 2007! In the meantime, we can confidently say that our commitment is in very good standing – we’re interviewing for Project Managers on Wednesday for the women’s economic empowerment initiative Continue reading…

Sahra: a celebration of Universal Children’s Day

TYO is excited about a big party this fall: Sahra, which translates roughly as “an evening out with friends,” in Las Vegas on November 21! Not only is it great news to hear of such a high-profile event profiling the beauty of Arab culture in Las Vegas, but also, that it will commemorate Universal Children’s Day! (By the way, we’re working on our own celebration for Children’s Day on November 20 here in Nablus – keep your eyes open for more details as the day approaches!) Plus, Sahra will create a real benefit for kids on the ground, by donating Continue reading…
