“I like TYO’s concept and goals. At first, I thought that TYO is only about educational programs. I didn’t know that the organization cares this much about the humanitarian side. That’s what makes this place so special. TYO cares about the happiness of the kids. Children can come here and find support for the unimaginable challenges that many of them face. Continue reading…

While working at TYO, I have learned that education depends on the community as a whole. Children need time and support from both their teachers and parents. They also need personalized activities. Some children are visual learners, some learn best through physical activity, and some learn best by listening. TYO provides children and the community with these valuable learning resources because they care about them. Continue reading…

When I’m not in TYO, and I don’t have exams, I like to paint. My favorite thing to paint is faces because they show emotions and feelings. I hope that if I take some courses, my painting will improve and I can fulfill my goal – to be an artist. Majdoleen is a volunteer at TYO with the After-School Academic Program. If I could give my younger self one piece of advice, it would be to just do what you want to do, and study what you want to study, no one can force you to do anything different. Try hard to achieve your goals because, if nothing else, at least you’re trying Saffanah is a volunteer at TYO with the After-School Continue reading…

Earth Day Everyday

Art is a universal method of communication that does not depend upon language or structure to share a message. At TYO, the importance of art as a form of expression and source of joy can  be viewed throughout the building through paintings, photographs, and creative projects. Participants across TYO’s programs have the opportunity to create and build their message through various art projects with special emphasis placed on using recycled materials. By using recycled materials, it becomes clear that something beautiful can be made with items other people might consider to be without value. For the children in TYO’s early childhood Continue reading…

“The children aren’t looking for someone to improve their lives through donations or monetary contributions but by feeling heard and understood by others.” “In general, I don’t need money but I work here because I want to help others and help build my community in order to grow a brighter future for its inhabitants.” . Masarah is a volunteer for the Continue reading…

My favorite thing to do in Nablus is to study English. I plan to travel abroad one day to build bridges with the international community through the English language. With the relationships I build abroad I hope to bring financial resources to my community as well as emotional support.  From this kind of support I want to improve housing for people living in poverty. I hope that poverty as a whole can come to an end in Nablus through creating greater access to a good education. I want to teach all children how to speak English. I want to teach my Continue reading…

I really enjoy studying languages. I recently started learning how to play the guitar with one of TYO’s teachers. I was amazed by how learning music feels like learning another language. You need only learn certain sounds, symbols and patterns and how to put them together. Now I’m starting to play songs in English, and I’m excited to become even better in the language. Continue reading…

If you want to learn any language, you must be serious.  To learn anything, you must be serious.  And you really need to have a friend from that country.  To learn Arabic, for example, you have to have a friend from the Arab world. Haya is a student in the English as a Foreign Language (EFL) program as part of STEP!
