Fostering Women Entrepreneurs in the Middle East
Program Dates: November 2012-October 2014
Following the successful completion of the Fostering Women Entrepreneurs in Nablus (FWEN) and Women Entrepreneurs in Lebanon (WEL) programs, TYO continued its collaboration with the Cherie Blair Foundation for Women (CBFW) and local training partners through the two-year Fostering Women Entrepreneurs in the Middle East (FWEME) Program in Palestine and Lebanon.
FWEME targeted over 80 aspiring and existing female entrepreneurs from marginalized contexts in the Northern West Bank and the Bekaa Valley, Lebanon. The program followed the Fostering Women Entrepreneurs four-phased model developed in collaboration with CBFW and refined during past programs. The four phases of the program were:
- Selection of female business leaders, initial 4-day intensive training, and individual coaching and mentoring
- Development of business plans
- Selection of business plans to be incubated
- Incubation of selected businesses through training and support for business expansion, with particular focus on marketing, distribution, access to finance, and networking.
The FWEME program was guided by local Steering Committees composed of local business leaders, project partners, and staff in each location.
Through the FWEME program, over 80 women increased their business knowledge and technical skills; 40 women received individual coaching and created business plans; and 20 women incubated their businesses.
