Welcome Spring 2012 Interns!

TYO is pleased to introduce the latest members of our Nablus team! Welcome, Spring Interns: Nawal, Anna, Claudia and Laura! Their classes begin next week but currently, they are in the middle of an informative and energizing orientation program! Please join us on the blog every Monday in the coming weeks for updates on their progress and reflections on their experiences in Nablus.

Nawal - Nawal is from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Nawal earned her BA in Philosophy with minors in Legal Studies & History and Gender, Culture & Society from the University of Pennsylvania. After school, she moved to New York, working as a paralegal for the U.S. Department of Justice. In New York, she mentored teenage girls through the New York Rugby Club in addition to playing for the women's rugby team. Nawal will be teaching a sports class, IT for women, fitness for women and English at An-Najah University.

Claudia - Claudia is originally from Miami, Florida and studied International Politics with a concentration in Justice and Peace studies at Georgetown University. Since graduating, she has been interning with Search for Common Ground, a conflict resolution organization in Washington, DC. Claudia has experience teaching English to children on various levels - as a private tutor and in a summer camp setting. This spring, Claudia will be teaching a drama class, English to TYO staff, fitness for women and English at An-Najah University.

Laura - Laura was born and raised in Pennsylvania.  At the University of Chicago, Laura graduated with a bachelor's degree in Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations. For the past five years, Laura has been working as a swim coach for children ages 5 - 18, including children with special needs - particularly for those with autism spectrum disorder. This spring, Laura will be teaching a sports class, English to TYO staff, fitness for women and English at An-Najah University.

Anna - Anna grew up in Bethesda, Maryland and graduated from Middlebury College in Vermont. During her studies, she spent a semester studying abroad in Alexandria, Egypt. Since graduating, she has been interning at the Middle East Institute in DC. Anna also had the chance to volunteer at 826DC, an organization that provides after-school tutoring and creative writing workshops to children in DC. Anna will be teaching an art class, IT for women, fitness for women and English at An-Najah University.
