It's Our Turn, Girls!
Gender discrimination and poverty are often the causes for girls and women being ousted from opportunities and decision-making. Millions of girls around the world are being denied an education because they are being forced to work or marry instead; often ending up with-child while technically not having reached adulthood themselves. Plan, an organization (headquartered in UK) dedicated to helping the world's poorest children create better futures, has recently taken on a project in hopes to raise awareness and support for girls around the world who are stripped of their right to choose their futures. On February 22 they launched a campaign that highlights the struggles of girls from the most impoverished of places through an interactive facial recognition ad that can determine whether a male or female is standing before it. When the ad detects a male it denies him the choice to view all the content of the ad in order to highlight the widespread gender disparities that often deny women basic rights.
Bravo Plan-UK! TYO supports every child's right to education, but appreciates the outstanding recognition and importance placed on girls in this regard. To support the effort and read more about the campaign follow the link below.
