The Women's Group Spring 2012 Session Wraps Up
The Women's Group (TWG) rounded up its final week of an incredibly successful Spring 2012 session. After three months of rigorous workouts, hundreds of new English vocabulary and grammar lessons, tons of Microsoft Office tutorials, and countless empowering seminars, the women celebrated with a final hurrah.
We would like to offer a special thanks to our partners this session: Women's Studies Center, YMCA-Nablus, Treatement and Rehabilitation Center for Tortured Victims, Palestinian Center for Democracy and Conflict Resolution, An-Najah University, Al-Aqsa Academy, The Multi-Purpose Community Resource Center, Palestinian Charitable Family Planning and Protection Society, Palestinian Working Women's Society for Development, Children's Defense Society, and Family Defense Society. With the help of committed experts from each of these institutions we were able to offer women an array of seminars: women's rights, organization & time management, breast cancer, nutrition, diabetes, stress and depression, anger management, domestic violence, effects of spousal disputes on children, child abuse, children's right to play, Palestinian legislative law and marriage, and Palestinian law in regards to violence on women and children.
TYO's enthusiastic interns and fellows helped the program coordinator and program assistant for TWG organize two days of parties during which different stations were planned out for the ladies to enjoy, including card making, jar decorating, flower making from recycled bags, an Arabic film screening, nail painting and henna tattooing. It was wonderful to see the cards women made in support of TYO hero, Usama Malik, who is Racing the Planet to raise awareness and donations for the organization.
Take a look at the two truly bittersweet celebration days captured in pictures below. Though the session has wrapped up for now, the women who were moved to tears from the thought of missing their favorite teachers, speaker and friends will only have to wait three short weeks before the Summer 2012 session begins! Look out for updates on the new and exciting activities we have planned for the bigger and better session just ahead.
