Meet the Summer 2012 TYO HQ Interns!
This summer, TYO is lucky to have three interns joining the headquarters team! Take a minute to 'meet' them...
Elly Taura
Originally from Northern Virginia, Elly is a rising senior at the University of Virginia. While majoring in Studio Art, she has enjoyed exploring and developing skills in graphic design through various jobs and internships. Her experiences in Guatemala Christian missions, coaching young kids in gymnastics, and helping out with a local Girl Scouts troop in need in Charlottesville grew her interest in early childhood and youth programs and helped her understand first hand the fortuity of fun, interactive learning, and the importance of showing true care to children at a young age. This summer, Elly will work on various graphic design projects for TYO.
Maddie Ulanow
Maddie is from Washington, D.C. and is currently studying Arabic and International Relations at Carleton College in Minnesota. Prior to joining TYO, Maddie lived for a summer in Rabat, Morocco, studying Moroccan Arabic language and culture on a State Department security scholarship program. In college she tutors local refugee students from Somalia and the Middle East, works in social activism and TAs introductory language courses. She is looking forward to pursuing these interests and contributing them to TYO. This summer, she'll be focusing on marketing and social media.
Rachel Widany
Rachel is from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and is a rising senior at Allegheny College of Meadville, where she studies International Affairs in the MENA region as well as French and economics. She recently spent a semester in Cairo studying Arabic and the relationship between Islam and political dissent. While there, she also worked on economic development projects and taught elementary English as part of a refugee rehabilitation program. At home, Rachel volunteers with her local women’s shelter. She is excited to continue to pursue these interests and put them to use at TYO. This summer, she'll be supporting TYO fundraising and communications.
