Welcome Spring 2014 Interns!

TYO is pleased to introduce the Spring 2014 interns! They come from diverse backgrounds - all the way from the United States, the United Kingdom and New Zealand. Read all about them!

Spring 2014 Interns

Laura

Laura is from the UK and in December, she graduated with MSc International Development from the University of Birmingham. In Trinidad, Laura helped implement non-formal education classes to over 700 children and in Ecuador, she planned daily informal activities with pre-school aged children from disadvantaged communities . She will be teaching ESL for 4th grade and 7th grade, The Women's Group Fitness & Nutrition and Professional Competency at An Najah National University.

Celia

Celia is from New Zealand and received her BA in Political Science from University of Otago in New Zealand and then did post graduate studies to teach secondary English and History. She has been teaching in New Zealand and Australia  for students 12-19 years old over the past four years. She also has a background in theater, dance and art and is looking to combine her background in education with her passion for humanitarian work. She will be teaching English to 4 and 5 year olds in the Core Child Program, ESL for 6th grade and 9th grade and An Najah National University Professional Competency.

Katharine

Katharine completed her BA in Science in Wildlife Ecology and Conservation and completed her Master of Water Management this past  year. Her international development experience comes from her service as a Peace Corps volunteer in rural Guatemala from 2009-2011 in which she had a range of projects primarily focusing on sustainable community tourism and environmental education. She will be teaching ESL for 5th grade and 8th grade, The Women's Group Fitness & Nutrition and An Najah National University Professional Competency.

Mariella

Mariella is from the UK and will begin studying Classics at King’s College in the fall. She has experience in tutoring peers in Latin, with drama and theater, and in human rights.  She will be teaching The Women's Group Fitness & Nutrition, Staff English and assisting in ESL classes in the afternoon.
