Women Power

"Women’s voices and their participation in all aspects of society are more important than ever." - The United Nations

Education is one of the most important means of empowering women with the knowledge, skills and self-confidence necessary to participate fully in the development process of society.

More than one third of the world's adults, most of them women, have no access to books, new skills, or to technologies that would improve the quality of their lives and help them shape and adapt to social and economic change. What TYO aims to do through The Women's Group is educate and empower women in this type of situation, through non-formal education classes like IT, fitness and nutrition, photography, and informative seminars about various topics ranging from health to fire safety in the house. TYO aims to promote the fulfilment of women's potential through education and skill development, giving paramount importance to the elimination of illiteracy and ill health among women. The ultimate goal is to empower these women to become strong individuals who can become change makers in their society.

"Teaching practical and parenting skills to mothers has a significant and sustained impact on children’s well-being, reaches large numbers of children, and is an essential aspect of TYO’s work."

Women in my class have learnt the fundamental functions of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint as well as how to surf the internet. I can safely say it is an absolute pleasure to teach these women as they are extremely enthusiastic and willing to learn new skills and techniques which in turn, they can use to help their children. All of these fantastic opportunities available to these women would not be possible without the hard work of TYO.
