Participants discuss child rights on Human Rights' Day
On Thursday, December 10, 2009 several trainers from the Treatment & Rehabilitation Center for Victims of Torture came to TYO to help us commemorate International Human Rights' Day. The Afternoon Core Program children participated in an excellent training on human rights and child rights, including activities such as role playing and drawing. The children were engaged and absorbed in the subject at hand. Key concepts and themes of human rights were broken down so that the children could easily understand them and participate. They discussed the right to learn, play, agree/refuse and live in peace and safety. Each discussion was complemented by a role-playing activity which not only provided several instances of comic relief, but also an opportunity to apply what the children had learned. It was a great way to honor International Human Rights' Day.
Thank you TRC!
