Field Day in Jenin

Last Saturday, TYO went on the road, bringing fun educational games to the children of Jenin. TYO volunteers, interns, and staff led over 170 children, ages 6 - 10, at the UNRWA Girl's School in these activities. At TYO, we understand the importance of reaching children outside of Nablus that are unable to come to the TYO Center. According to UNRWA, Jenin's refugee camp is home to over 16,000 refugees, and sits on 0.42 square kilometers, with over 40% of its residents under the age of 14. With such a high population of youth, it's not surprising that Jenin's only refugee camp suffers from overcrowded schools. Providing these children with a structured and safe environment for play, gives them an opportunity to escape the stress of their everyday lives.

The children participated in painting activities, hula hoop relays, water games, and more! All of the participants were excited and eager to learn and play new games with us and although their ages varied, the activities were age-appropriate and exciting for everyone. The highlight of the day for our volunteers and staff was playing with the parachute. We always love seeing smiles on the faces of the children when they play with the parachute for the first time. The TYO team looks forward to doing it all again this coming Saturday!
