Happy Mother's Day!

The formative period for building character for eternity is in the nursery. The mother is queen of that realm and sways a scepter more potent than that of kings or priests. -Unknown

Mothers are absolutely vital to everyone, and their role and service must be recognized. Not only is the important role of instilling values, purpose and responsibility best undertaken by a mothers, but so too is the cultivation of a sense of security and well-being. Humanism, including empathy, community, intimacy, sensitivity, charisma, confidence and love – is passed from mothers (especially if she herself possesses such qualities and is determined to pay them forward). For ages mothers have always filled such roles, tending not only to their children but also taking an instrumental role in serving and changing their communities. It is time we recognize them for their hard work, blood, sweat and tears.

In attempt to show our special thanks to mothers, this week The Women's Group (TWG) celebrated Mother's Day in Palestine which is on March 21. For a change of pace, we cancelled classes on Wednesday and Thursday and instead took a walk to the park to feast on our potlucks. We shared tabouleh, melfoof, popcorn, sweets, laughs and dances. An impromptu concert sparked when the ladies began using utensils and trays to create a beat that echoed through the park; the dancing began! Interns - Anna, Claudia, Laura and Nawal - concluded the party by gifting each of the mothers a flower. We hope the heartfelt gatherings were just the beginning to hopefully relaxing and satisfying days for TWG attendees.

Mothers make the world go round. Instead of simply putting all of efforts to celebrate them once a year, let's strive to show them our appreciation on a daily basis.

Kul 'am wa entum bkhair (I hope every year brings you happiness)!
