Volunteer Spotlight: Abdel Hameed
This Volunteer Spotlight features Abdel Hameed Badran. Abdel Hameed is 22 years old, from Aseera, a village outside of Nablus, and a current volunteer at TYO.
How long have you been a volunteer at TYO and which classes have you participated in?
I've been at TYO for three sessions, volunteering in both the Core Morning and Afternoon Programs.
What do you study?
I am a senior at Al-Quds Open University studying finance.
How did you hear about TYO?
I learned about TYO through one of the former Core Program teachers. He is my neighbor in Aseera and he told me about this great organization.
Why were you motivated to come?
I came because I wanted to meet new people, learn new things and gain more experiences in my life.
What was your favorite moment/class at TYO?
During my first session here, I was invited to one of the local staff's birthday party. I was so excited to be invited and felt love and acceptance from the TYO team as well as my fellow volunteers.
What have you learned as a result of your time spent here?
I have gained more self confidence, felt more courageous and have become more responsible. My confidence grew a lot when I was asked to teach the IT class as a substitute teacher. I appreciate TYO's efforts in building the volunteers' self-confidence by giving them responsibility to lead classes and plan activities.
What is your hope for tomorrow's youth?
I hope all young people join NGOs, volunteer in their communities, and develop their unique and special skills.
